My 2023/24 Season Review

Hi guys, it’s been a while. Season 2023/24 has come to an end….
Finishing my 6th season in professional football. It’s been another of thrills and lessons. I have remember. that 10-year-old me would've done anything to be in this position.
However, there are some things this season I need to improve on, ultimately falling short of my goals and expectations. So I thought I’d share with you some things I’ve learnt during this rollercoaster season.
Here are 5 lessons learnt from my 2023/24 season:
#1 - The Advantage Of Availability
A pivotal attribute in high-performing environments whether it be in sport or business. These include:
Enhanced reputation
Increased dependability
More opportunity for growth and learning
I've missed too many games and training sessions due to injury this season.
The more opportunities I have to train and play matches, the more I opportunities I have to hone my craft.
I will be placing more focus on my physical robustness and injury prevention for the 2024/25 season.
#2 - Your Why?
Why do you do what you do?
The players I've met in football have a whole host of different why's:
Cars, acclaim, money, women, family...
Football is a ruthless industry full of obstacles and adversity.
So it's important to have a reasons which to offset the challenges when times are tough.
Benefits of having a why:
Gives you a clear focus
Prioritises your decision making
Improves ability to deal with adversity
I was complacent this season, taking the opportunity I have for granted.
Football was always my dream from ever since I can remember.
It has been a joint effort for me to be in this position.
Not giving 100% would be throwing all the sacrifices back in their faces.
This is my why.
#3 - The Importance Of Action
You'd rather think the wrong things and act positively than think positively and not act upon them.
Performance in any field is based off action.
This is where football managers judge players.
This is where bosses judge employees.
I got caught up talking about high performance, without living a high-performance life.
Just do the thing.
#4 - Value Of Relationships
Success in football requires you to be selfish.
Cutting off all distractions.
I felt victim of this too.
It can still be a lonely industry, in constantly changing environments.
I found myself lost and lonely in pursuit, with no one to share victories or to lean on in tough spells.
It made everything a bigger uphill battle for me.
Life is about relationships.
They are fundamental to achieving success and fulfilment.
The company and people you bring along for the journey is what matters.
#5 - Accepting Full Responsibility
You can't take the credit with things go well, without taking the blame when things don't.
Ultimately, this season I have felt short of my expectations.
But I take all the blame for this.
This means I'm in control to change and improve next season.
I'll be putting in the work this off season and looking forward to putting things into action for the 2024/25 season, thanks for reading! 🫡
